At the center of this cake is our B&P Chocolate Cake Mix — and it’s doing all the heavy lifting.

Just add water, mix, and bake. The result is a soft, structured cake that’s perfect for soaking up that signature tres leches mixture without falling apart.

Don’t have our mix on hand? No problem. A boxed chocolate cake mix works just as well, making this recipe accessible no matter what you have in your kitchen.

What Makes It Tres Leches

Once baked, the cake is soaked in a blend of three milks, transforming it into something incredibly tender and rich.

It’s what gives this cake its signature texture — moist without being heavy, and flavorful in every bite.

The chocolate base adds a deeper, more indulgent layer to the traditional version. It’s familiar, but just different enough to stand out.

The Ingredients: Cake

  • (1) 20 oz B&P Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 12 oz Water, cool

The Ingredients: tres leche

  • 14 oz Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 6 oz Evaporated Milk
  • 6 oz Half & Half
  • 15 grams Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

The Ingredients: whipped topping

  • 75 Grams Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 120 grams Powdered Sugar
  • 24 oz Heavy Cream

Instructions

  • 1. Prepare cake batter per package and bake in a greased 9”X13” pan.
  • 2. Prepare tres leche by mixing the condensed milk, evaporated milk, half & half and cocoa powder and then whisk.
  • 3. Once cake is fully baked and still warm, use a fork to pierce the cake so the tres leche can soak in the cake.
  • 4. Pour tres leche evenly over cake and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight if possible.
  • 5. To prepare whipped topping, measure out powdered sugar, cocoa powder and cream in a mixing bowl and whisk on high till it’s the desired consistency
  • 6. Add whipped topping to cake and chill until ready to serve
