What We're Cooking
Some desserts feel like summer from the very first bite, and this Blueberry Sour Cream Pie is one of them.
Built on a flaky pie crust, this pie is filled with fresh blueberries nestled in a rich sour cream and cream cheese custard, then finished with a buttery pecan streusel topping. It’s the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy—all in one slice.
Whether you serve it warm from the oven or chilled straight from the refrigerator, you really can’t go wrong.
This isn’t your average blueberry pie.
The fresh blueberries burst as they bake, while the sour cream and cream cheese filling creates a silky custard that’s rich without feeling heavy. Add a buttery pecan streusel on top, and every bite has just the right combination of textures.
Even better? It’s one of those desserts that tastes just as good—if not better—the next day.
If you’re planning a Fourth of July cookout, family gathering, or summer celebration, this pie deserves a spot on the menu.
Bake it the day before, let it chill overnight, and simply slice and serve when it’s time for dessert. It’s one less thing to think about on a busy hosting day, and the flavors only continue to develop as it rests.
We bake this pie in our Nordic Ware Removable Bottom Pie Pan, available in the Birdy & Pretzels Kitchen Store.
Unlike a traditional pie plate, the removable bottom allows you to present a beautiful deep-dish, freestanding pie that’s ready to take center stage on any dessert table. There’s no struggling to remove the first slice—the entire pie lifts cleanly from the pan for an impressive presentation.
It’s one of those kitchen tools you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again.
One of our favorite baking tips is to use a digital thermometer instead of relying solely on bake times.
For this pie, we bake until the internal temperature reaches 190°F.
Baking to temperature takes the guesswork out of knowing when the custard has fully set, ensuring perfectly baked results every single time.
At Birdy & Pretzels, we believe the best baking comes from using the right tools, the right techniques, and the right recipes—and baking by temperature is one of the easiest ways to gain confidence in the kitchen.
